Cost to replace transmission

I had no luck with the local Honda dealership on the phone. He clearly was steering me away from replacing the whole tranny and towards fixing the existing one yet his estimates were climbing with each paragraph '.could be $2000-$3000.' He did indicate that the labor charge to remove/replace the existing tranny would be about $800. I also called AAmco and didn't feel too comfortable with the guy on the phone. I believe in this case it is the customer. What I didn't find out was who is responsible for core return shipping charges. Estimated total for the whole job would be about $2200 USD. His labor estimate came to $577 with another $100 estimate for any extra parts needed. Motor/tranny mounts would be extra if needed. He gave me a quote for 9.4 hours of labor plus any additional materials that may be required such as gaskets. I then called a local garage and asked for a quote on the labor to do remove/replace the tranny. Autozone seems to know very little about it so I had to call Accurate and ask them the details. It comes with a 3 year/unlimited mileage warranty.

They have 4 or 5 large rebuilding shops across the US. The tranny is a rebuilt one done by Accurate transmissions shop. Autozone sells the transmission in my area for $1519USD plus a $800 core charge that you get back after returning the old tranny. Click to expand.I checked a few options today.
